April 22, 2020
We certainly hope everyone is safe and doing well at home. We're sure you'll agree that the quarantine and shutdown are getting a little old at this point! Ideally, things will get better and somewhat back to 'normal' soon.
With regard to a possible timeline for reopening of our resort, here are some factors to know about as the Board of Directors considers them:
We will closely monitor all local, state, and federal guidelines for lockdowns, quarantine etc., in order to determine when it is best to reopen Costa del Sol. While we all want to reopen, we must do so responsibly. As for now, we are still under the Governor's' mandate to remain closed through the end of April. We expect this will be updated soon from the Governor's office. If and when this happens, we will then see what Broward County and Lauderdale-By-The-Sea officials announce about reopening locally. In addition, we are closely watching the status of the businesses up and down El Mar Drive. While we will advise about the status when we can, the ultimate decision about when to come back to the resort will be up to each individual owner.
Please understand that when we do reopen, our plan is to be very diligent in maintaining safety guidelines and likely limiting the use of some of our normal amenities; for example the hot tub, coffee shop (with reduced seating), limiting the number of people simultaneously using the barbecue grill etc.
While we do not have a specific date to announce for reopening at this particular moment, we are preparing now for the eventual time when we can reopen.
Here are some key activities taking place as we move closer to an opening date:
Upon shutdown on March 25, all rooms were cleaned. However, we are bringing some staff back now to prepare the rooms and the overall resort for reopening. Part of that includes exploring the best practices (commercial or otherwise) for deep cleaning prior to opening.
Our maintenance team has been painting the coffee shop, cleaning and resealing the pool deck, painting the pool coping and doing as many other typical maintenance activities as possible during this down time.
Our new AC chiller will be completely installed by the end of this week. This is fortunate because the AC needs to be off during this 3-4 day install.
We are defining new protocols that will be needed when we reopen. It is safe to say that there will be a 'new normal' for us all – social distancing parameters and employee practices; masks; new cleaning procedures between Saturday check-ins; and many other behaviors. Part of this analysis will include research and advice on best practices for our industry. We will ALL need to do things differently when we reopen.
Please rest assured that we will continue to communicate any timelines as soon as we can. Stay safe and healthy. We are getting through this!
