We hope that all of you are continuing to be safe and remaining healthy.

This newsletter provides an update from the recent Board of Directors meeting held on August 19, 2020.

Board of Directors Change

The Board of Directors accepted Charlie DeJean's resignation as a Board member and Secretary of the Board at its August 19, 2020 meeting. Charlie served on the Costa Board since June 2016 and was supportive in many of the recent projects. We want to extend our thanks to Charlie for his service and look forward to seeing him at the resort in the coming months.

Given the present situation and the workload of the Board during the pandemic, we decided to fill the vacancy immediately. The Board sought an individual with skills related to information technology (IT), operating budgets and contracts.

We welcome Fred Glazier who, along with his family, has been vacationing at Costa del Sol since the early 1980s. He and his wife Pam have been owners for more than 10 years with units in weeks 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. They, along with their sons, enjoy the Costa family resort.

Fred hails from Connecticut and has been an employee of the largest power utility in the Northeast for over 38 years. He brings a skill set that includes being the IT expert for that company's Connecticut Distribution Operations Center. He also has telecommunications experience and acts as a liaison to contractor crews and IT for several multi-million-dollar renovation projects.

Fred is excited to get more involved with helping Costa del Sol to continue to be the best timeshare resort that Florida has to offer.

Anthony Silva will assume the role of Board Secretary effective immediately. Please welcome both Board members to their new roles.

Coronavirus Update

Presently, the number of COVID-19 cases in Florida is decreasing, albeit at a slow rate. The Costa del Sol Board of Directors and management are following Federal, State, County, Town and Association guidelines that are being implemented to ensure the safety of our staff and owners.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis extended the existing "state of emergency" to September 7th, but he has lifted the requirement for residents from New Jersey, New York and Connecticut to quarantine when they visit Florida. Additionally, Broward County has reintroduced the opportunity for us to offer short-term rentals, and they have lifted the curfew.

In light of these developments, the decision has been made to relax access to some of our resort amenities, although many of the original restrictions will remain in place. We will continue to monitor and re-evaluate the protocols and keep you informed of any changes to them.


Note: Depending upon possible new emergency orders from the State of Florida or Broward County, as well as respect of the protocols by owners and guests, Costa del Sol restrictions may be amended as necessary.

Notices that remain in effect are:

  • All persons are required to wear masks in all enclosed/public areas, including the front office, elevators etc.

  • Everyone must follow CDC guidelines for social distancing – 6 feet of separation (except for members of the same family)

  • Only registered people in a unit will be permitted on the property – no outside visitors

  • No access to the following resort amenities: hot tub and sauna

  • Limit of 8 people in the pool (this represents 50% of the allowable limit) with a pool attendant present

  • There are a limited number of pool chairs, and they will be placed to respect social distancing and cleaned when a user leaves the deck.

Changes to the protocols:

Increased Access to Amenities – effective Saturday, August 22nd

  • Extended pool hours to 7 pm (i.e. 9:00am – 7:00pm) with an attendant poolside during these hours

  • Open the BBQ from 11:00am – 7:00pm. There will be a sign-up sheet in the front office to permit access by one family at the grill for 30 minutes. Staff will manage the access and clean the BBQ & utensils after each use.

Short-Term Rentals – effective Saturday, September 5th

  • We will begin taking short-term rentals while strictly following the current Broward County Emergency Order 20-23.

These rentals will be subject to the additional $75.00 sanitization fee.

Financial Position

The Board continues to monitor our financial position throughout this pandemic period. The situation could not have been anticipated and therefore not included in our 2020 planning. We appreciate the difficult position that owners affected by the recent closure have been in; however, it is beyond our control.

We have begun to develop the 2021 budget, and it will be mailed out to the owners in the Annual Meeting package in September. We are seeking more cost efficiencies to reduce, or at least maintain, the annual fees.

Also, we are working on plans to reduce the number of Association owned weeks to generate revenue and cover the 2021 maintenance fees.
